DataMinds was tasked by the marketing department of an international, full-service digital marketing company to gather particular information from more than one hundred complex files, to help the company grow aggressively, as part of an ongoing acquisition project. The process required data mining customer profiles with distinct identification codes.

By developing a specific text-mining tool in The Lab that could work with Excel, DataMinds automated the scanning and collating of individual files for the required data. DataMinds designed the tool to be highly adaptable to new requirements over time to save the company time, money and unnecessary labour.

To have undertaken the project manually would have been cumbersome, time-consuming, and allowed the possibility of inaccuracy while handling hundreds of highly sensitive files.

A quant from a Big 4 bank envisaged a sensitivity analysis model to extrapolate exposure based on present day data, at any given time and from a variety of sources. While the team at the bank was clear about the requirements of the model, it lacked the technical expertise to create a user-friendly model that could be updated daily to support strategic trading decisions.

DataMinds undertook a structural audit of the existing model. As a result, options for automation and the improvement of accuracy were considered, and a series of macros to streamline the model were subsequently developed.

The accounting department of a fast-growing FMCG company briefed DataMinds to track specific variables from multiple sources and calculate commissions for each of their sales personnel, at the end of every month.

Up to that moment, the process had been confusing and often suffered from stress and fatigue due to the volume of data that had to be accessed, as well as tight, non-negotiable monthly deadlines. As a result, the company could not make accurate, strategic decisions because often the accounting was incorrect and, therefore, the projections were not realistic.

DataMinds identified areas in which automation could significantly improve the process by eliminating over 80% of the time-consuming, manual touchpoints. Removing confusion and freeing staff meant the company could finally unlock time for proper reconciliation to increase the accuracy, so that senior management could confidently budget for new projects and sustainable growth.
